Nick Batsikiouras – Inventor of the Smart Diet Scale

Nick Batsikiouras, 48, is the inventor/owner of the Smart Diet Scale, a scale that helps you calculate the nutritional value of your entire meal on your plate, all at once. Innovate3D is happy that we were able to help Nick in the development of his invention, which has already been recognized by the health and fitness industry, as well as by national cable TV networks. In this article, Nick will tell us about the Smart Diet Scale.

The Inspiration Behind the Smart Diet Scale Invention

In 2011, I lost 100 pounds in 12 months and have kept it off since. For years I struggled with my weight, losing 10 to 30 pounds but just gaining it right back. I did low carb, low fat, fad diets… You name it, I did them all! Finally, I did something smart. I learned portion-control and exercised three to five days a week for 15 to 30 minutes a day depending on the exercise routine. I also counted my calories every day, except for one day a week, my “cheat day,” when I would eat whatever I wanted.

Innovate3D Inventor Featured in Machine Design Magazine

Inventor Julie Hyde Edwards’ story is told in a recent article by Leslie Gordon of Machine Design (Sep 6 issue), titled Inventor’s corner: Surgical dressing restores mastectomy patients’ figures. With her medical invention re-Contour™ – an product that improves the aesthetic look of the breast, avoids flattening & encourages healing -, Julie Hyde Edwards aims at helping women return to a semblance of normalcy following a mastectomy.

Innovate3D is very happy to have been mentioned as well:

An inventor’s workshop led [Julie Hyde Edwards] to Innovate3D, an invention service firm with an office in Dearborn, Mich., which has personnel experienced in medical prosthetics and medical materials. An invention engineer there took her basic 3D CAD model and modified it for future development. The firm also helped Julie identify a Detroit-area medical manufacturer interested in bringing the re-Contour to market.

Innovate3D helps an inventor in her quest to return women to a semblance of normalcy following a mastectomy.

There’s nothing like a diagnosis of cancer to rock your world. Julie Hyde Edwards was told she had breast cancer in January 2008. As she went through a mastectomy followed by a series of reconstructive surgeries, Julie channeled her energy into getting back to normal, of which a large part meant looking like she did before. As a practicing graphic designer, aesthetics mattered. And as woman, Julie was well aware of how looks affected her appreciation, her sense of well-being and acceptance.

Innovate3D Inventor Profile: Dawn Sole & Jacque Tanner Tarlton – BeautyBit™

BeautyBit™ – a Broken Nail Leads to an Invention

By Rachel Park

BeautyBit(TM) inventors Dawn and Jacque received the “Best Woman Inventor” at Inpac, the international invention show.

What do you do when you have a great idea for a new product but have no idea where to begin? What if you also work full time?

This is how Dawn Sole and business partner Jacque Tanner Tarlton found themselves. They had brainstormed some ideas during a much-needed downtime on a beach one weekend towards the end of 2010. Like most good ideas, BeautyBit™ was the result of a troublesome predicament experienced by Dawn just days earlier. As Dawn climbed into her Jeep she broke a nail. A small problem, to be sure, but one that is multiplied by millions of women.

Dawn searched her purse for her nail file, eventually found it and fixed the fingernail. She then went back into her purse for the buffer she needed to finish the job. It also occurred to her right there and then that while she was at it, she could sort her eyebrows out. As she delved back into her purse for the third time, searching around for another small beauty tool, it occurred to her that her time and effort would have been greatly reduced if only the three items were combined into one tool.

Time Magazine Features Innovate3D Engineer’s Work

Kenan Wollberg Invention in Time Magazine John Gallina, pictured below on the cover of Time magazine (left), is wearing a prosthesis designed by a team including no other than Innovate3D’s own Kenan Wollborg.

I asked Kenan a few questions about it.

What is the make and model?
It is made by College Park, Inc. and it is the Soleus product.

What was the role you played in its design or manufacture?
I helped from the early concept to production. My role involved design and manufacturability evaluation. I also helped tune the dynamics of the springs to hit specific criteria. In additon, I developed the processes used to produce the product.
